Cypress College offers the courses and hands-on training you need to become a California state licensed smog technician. Our instructors in this program are Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) certified and have helped the state develop standards for this program.
At Cypress, we offer the following courses to get you on the job in two semesters:
- AT 170 C Basic Clean Air Car Course:
This course prepares students for the State of California Licensed Smog Check Mechanic Test. The most current emission diagnostic equipment will be used, including BAR97 chassis dynomometers.
- AT 171 C Advanced Clean Air Car Course:
This course covers operating procedures and repair strategies for loaded mode emission testing. This course meets BAR smog check licensing requirements.
Cypress College's Automotive Technology Department is registered with the Bureau of Automotive Repair as an automotive repair facility. The Automotive Department takes in automotive repair projects from the general public for real-life, hands-on student training. The college is also an official smog testing and repair station, providing hands-on training for future smog technicians.
